Camping!

So my sister and her husband were camping this week down at San Elijo State Beach. They wanted a few family photos, and considering the fact that I had just gotten my Radiopoppers in I was more than happy to shoot for them. The Radiopoppers are an incredible product and a huge upgrade from the ebay remotes I had been shooting with. The ebay remotes would work whenever they wanted to (or didn't want to) and this led to incredible frustration. I would have never pulled them out on a legitimate shoot. The Radiopoppers, however, worked %100 of the time and I couldn't have been happier with them. Anyway, here's some of the photos!

Brittany/Josh Engaged!

Rarely, if ever, do you have someone tell you prior to shooting their photo that they "like the whole cheesy thing". Most people are drawn to cutting edge, trendy, overly edited stuff these days it seems. When Josh told me that as we wandered around downtown, I laughed. Not cheesy, but despite my tricks and plans simple ended up being the call of the day. Simple, real, refreshing, "it is what it is". While describing Josh and Brittany perfectly, this ultimately ended up being the theme of our time together and photos. I find that with every photographic experience my results increasingly reflect the characters and traits of the subjects being photographed regardless of how much I kick, bite, pull, scratch or edit. There is something impossibly stubborn and perplexing about this. I didn't plan these photos this way. I suppose they just didn't look "right" any other way.

A Few Full Edits

So here's a little bit of the finished product for Darren and Nidah. They wanted to have a little church wedding in addition to their full fledged wedding the following weekend, so I had the opportunity to capture the memories of the ceremony. I was super stoked for this couple, and even though I had met them a week or so before, I feel like they're family already. Congratulations guys!

Here's a few of them!

Midnight already?/Tribute to a Canon A640

So it's approximately 12:15am. What better to do than update this? I was looking back through some of my old pictures and found a few that caught my eye. In the last year or so I haven't shot much else besides people. Prior to that, I NEVER photographed beings of the human sort. Call it what you will, but I'm pretty sure the term "fear" is the first appropriate description that pops into my mind. Also, I didn't have a legitimate camera. Let's face it, nobody wanted to get dressed/made up and show up to see me packing pocket-sized fury. Who needs them anyway, right? So I used to grab my little Canon A640 and take a meander down to the beach to Nathanland. Here's a few random experiences from that camera.

An afternoon in Temecula

Temecula is home to the Crook family. I've known Anna for almost 9 years and her husband Mac, for something like 7. Mac's a mechanic and Anna's a teacher. They're an amazing couple; they invite me to their family events, keep a drawer full of candy for me, and let me sleep on their Lovesack whenever I want. Mac's gone out of his way for me over and over it's a wonder he even lets me come out there anymore. So once a week for the last 6 years I've tried to make it out to Temecula for the Chipotle burritos and to play cars. Despite the terrible light, we shot a few family photos that afternoon. Here's a couple!
